 Orion III

The Orion III was designed by Harry Lange, Fredrick Ordway, & Tony Masters and was originally seen in 2001: A Space Odyssey in 1968.
                                     .
The way to go into space first class is on the Orion III
                                 .
The Orion III is the introduction to all of the vehicles in the landmark movie 2001, A Space Odyssey.  We first see it after it has completed its initial climb out of the Earth's atmosphere and is approaching the Space Station V.
                              .
The Orion III is described as a two-stage vehicle. However, we only get to see the upper passenger stage. The first stage launcher is left to our imaginations. Owing much to Eugene Sanger's Silver Bird, the Orion III must be one of the most beautiful space shuttles on record..  Carrying approximately 2 dozen passengers and/or cargo it was a beautiful and effective prediction as to what a future space shuttle of the future might look like.
                .
Like other predictive spaceships, it has a number of clues to what was expected to come to pass but one of the ironies is that it would live longer than the airline who's marking it carries. Stunningly realistic, this was truly a space plane designed with scientific help.
                   .
In the movie we get to see it docking with the huge circular space station in a very elegant sequence of ballet movements..  There is something about the design that is inherently correct as aerospace experts originally designed it.
                   .
While not a nuclear propelled spacecraft, it pointed the way to the future.
