 Thunderbird 3

The Thunderbird 3 was designed by Anderson/Meddlings and was originally presented in the TV movie Thunderbirds are GO in 1965.
                                   .
The Thunderbird 3 on its way up to Orbit to service the Space Station, T-Bird 5
                               .
If Thunderbird 1 is not quite a spacecraft, Thunderbird 3 is a nuclear spacecraft, and boy is it complicated! While its primary mission is to service the Space Station (T-Bird 5) it also has the ability to rescue stranded astronauts in near-Earth orbits.
                        .
One of the interesting things about it is that in order to board Thunderbird 3 the pilot enters through the tail section where the engine would nominally be.  However, the main thrusters are in its three external pods.
                              .
The Thunderbird 3 is a beautiful, and dramatic ship that takes off in an equally dramatic way up through the middle of the Tracy mansion roundhouse.  Apparently its launch is normally with chemical engines up to the point of high atmosphere where it turns on its nuclear engines in order to rendezvous with the space station.  A dramatic, fascinating spaceship, Thunderbird 3 has many fans and advocates worldwide.
                     .
As our space efforts go forward, we may find ourselves in need of a spacecraft with the capabilities of the Thunderbird 3.
