 Cosmostrator

The Cosmostrator was designed by Rabzinowciz/Hirschmeier and originally presented in 1959 in the Movie, 1st Spaceship on Venus.

This spaceship with a funny name has one of the most strikingly dramatic appearance of any spaceship of the 50s.  It is the Cosmostrator.  Meaning literally, “something that does Space travel,” it comes from a source that is very foreign to our western ears and eyes.
                              .
The Cosmostrator is an artistic statement that stands alone.  It does not look like your average spaceship. It has 3 wings and 3 pods that it stands on. Not only that, it uses three thrust chambers for its flight through space, one in each pod. While strange, this solves the problem of isolating the crew from the Atomic reactors quite handily. With the engines in the outer 'pods' the Cosmonauts were safe from the engines' radiation. It looks very much like a rocket out of the comic strips.

                                    .
It was the centerpiece in a movie that was conceived and created by a company based in Eastern Europe. This explains some of its foreign appeal.  This film has had a cult following for years, especially in Europe.  One look at the Cosmostrator and you will have little doubt as to why.
                         .
It is surprising that a design from the Soviet Bloc became one of the most outrageous and wonderfully different spaceship designs ever. This was a beautifully dramatic, unusual spaceship the likes of which we'd love to see again and again.
