Sometimes 'Comic' Art does not get the respect it deserves.
.
Take the Adventures of TinTin by Herge and the X-FLR6. This Spaceship, designed by Herge was originally presented in TinTin "Destination Moon" in 1953.
.
.
Of all of the illustrated novels and comic books that depict trips to outer space Herge’s Tintin Destination Moon has to be the most technically accurate.
.
Focused from a European perspective, the trip to the moon parallels the original efforts seen in Destination Moon with one exception, it has a sounding rocket to take pictures and bring back data before they make the moon trip. This rocket is the X-FLR6.
.
You can't ask for a nicer little starter rocket than the X-FLR-6. It is another case of a 'Round the Moon' rocket design, and it is really close to Oberth's in concept, but in execution, it is strictly Herge's.
.
In the story the X-FLR6 is launched, travels around the moon and is traveling back to the earth when it is seized by a mysterious power and deflected to another destination. Rather than have the information aboard fall into hostile hands the ship is remotely destroyed.
.
A sad end for a fine ship.
