This Spaceship was designed by Chesley Bonestell and rejected for Destination Moon. The first film to borrow it for its own use was the inexpensive thriller, "Flight to Mars" in 1951.
.
In this movie the ship appears minus its earlier paint design as the M.A.R.S. 1. It is shown as a pure silver spaceship but the rest of its details are identical to the one that Chesley Bonestell proposed.
.
It is an interesting movie. It reused, not only Bonestell’s spaceship, but the space suits from Destination Moon and the control cabin set from Rocketship X-M. This was doubtless due to its small special effects budget.
.
As for the plot, when the explorers reach the planet Mars and crash, they discover that the Martians are not only a superior race but willing to help them rebuild their ship so they can return to Earth.
.
So this may make the M.A.R.S. 1. the first Earthling and alien built spaceship.
