Docking Bay 30
Space Battle Cruiser
Just after WWII the Golden Age of the Spaceship was in full swing
.
The atomic powered rocketship was believed to be a near future achievement. By the late 40s, with the advent of atomic power, the idea of applying it to a rocket ship for space travel was an accepted ‘given’. Buck Rogers had been using Atomic powered spaceships like the Pioneer for years.
.

.
In this atmosphere, what better than an atomic powered Space Battle Cruiser to fight those evil Martians and their schemes to conquer the Earth? Preceding by decades the concept of a "Star Destroyer" this ship exemplified the spirit of what we would see in the movies of the future. But in the Golden era of Spaceships it looked like a cross between a ballistic missile and a battleship.
.

.
In this storyline Buck Rogers and his fellow Rocket Rangers have to go to the moon and defend the Earth against a gigantic doomsday weapon that had been secretly installed there by the Martian warlords. In many ways this story reflects the worries of the public during the late 40s and early 50s. There was much discussion about using the moon as a launching platform for ballistic missiles. And Atomic Bombs were on every newspaper’s Front page continuously. The Fear of World Annihilation was on everyone’s mind. Buck Rogers Space Battle Cruiser was an answer to this threat.
.
Born in the days of the Golden Age Atomic Spaceship, this beautiful design serves as a reminder of the romance of Space as seen by that more innocent era.
