Docking Bay 28
RocketShip
For Dreams to become real, they must have some part of reality within them.
In America, following the success of Fritz Lang's "Frau Im Mond," Hollywood decided to launch its own Science Fiction spectacular entitled "Just Imagine". The feature ship for this space adventure, was a spaceship designed to take the heroes to the planet Mars. It was named simply "Rocket Ship". It was one of the most dramatic rocketships the American public had ever seen.
.

.
In actuality it was closer to a rocket plane than a Spaceship. While it did feature rockets around its entire fuselage and have wings that were very small, it still managed to take off and land more like an aircraft than a Space ship.
.
Even though the movie (Just Imagine) it was created for did not do well, the Rocketship lived on throughout the 30s as Flash Gordon's spaceship. There it influenced millions of Americans as to what spaceships should look like. It also showed the difference between the public's understanding of spaceships and that of scientists like Goddard, Tsiolkovsky, and Oberth.
.
.
While the ship was of little scientific value, its largest contribution was the influence that it would have on a generation of young future space explorers. This ship would be seen not only in the movie, Just Imagine, but also later in three Flash Gordon serials. There it would enthrall youngsters for years.
.
Because of its fame, it could be considered the most influential single rocket ship design of the 1930s.
