 Spaceship Friede

The main star of the Fritz Lang's 1929 movie, "Die Frau Im Mond" (The Lady in the Moon) was the spaceship Frieda.  This spaceship design contained all of Hermann Oberth’s latest thinking.

                      .
The Frieda was a three-stage rocket ship.  The first and second stages would be used in the trip toward the Moon. The third stage would be the only part that would return to Earth. Very intricate and detailed models were made of the Frieda for the movie. One cutaway model was shown in the movie that detailed all of the engines, fuel tanks, fuel lines, pumps, parachute, and many other components.
                   .
One of the features Oberth used on the Frieda was the boxed fins like the ones on the H-32.  While providing significant strength to supporting the rocket while it was on the ground, these fans would have been a significant aerodynamic impediment to hypersonic speed.  However, to be fair, these factors were not known in 1928.
With her massive size, three stages of rockets and her parachute recovery of the passenger cabin, she would be studied and her design features followed in years to come.

                                    .
The technical sophistication of the Frieda was enough that it surprised and impressed officials of many governments who saw the film. It also led to the ongoing exploration of rockets within the German government.
                 .
It can be claimed that this particular science fiction spaceship may have actually caused the development of real spaceships.
