Docking Bay 16
Mars Landing Boat Book Version
In von Braun's second version of the Mars Landing Boat, designed for publication in the later book version of the Colliers magazine articles was that the detachable wings, previously stored beneath the spaceship, were eliminated. He now planned to fly to Mars with the wings on.

.
These spaceships would have looked more like jet airplanes flying through space. Then, upon arrival in upper Martian orbit, they would have been ready for instant descent down to the surface. They were still designed as a high altitude glider and because of some changes in calculations; their wingspan was somewhat narrower than the earlier design. The center rocket still had to be erected after they arrived on Mars.
Von Braun and his team put a lot of effort into planning this mission and the necessary details needed to make it a success.
What a sight this ship would have made flying through outer space, on its way to Mars, its wings outstretched, its single mission, to land humans on another planet.
